Rocky Gap State Park

We went to Rocky Gap State Park for the 4th of July and our anniversary and stayed at the resort.  It was a really nice vacation and we enjoyed our time as a family.

We rode the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad from Cumberland to Frostburg and back.  Eliza loved the train ride, which included a bridge and a tunnel, and really loved watching the train pull onto the roundtable to flip around and reattach to the opposite end of the train for the return trip.  The train was a neat old steam engine complete with a dining car, a baggage car, a mail car and a club car for first class passengers.  The mail car was open for passengers to stand in and look out opened windows, but it was also hot and full of soot from the smoke stack.

We also went to the Cumberland City Fireworks Show and 4th of July Concert in the Park.

We participated in many of the resort offerings including swimming at the beach on Lake Habeeb; taking Eliza to "Little Explorers" where she got to make a visor, go on a nature walk and read stories; geocaching where we found 5 caches out of 7; visiting the aviary where they house injured owls and a black vulture; roasting marshmallows at the evening campfire; and paddle boating.

Favorite picture from the trip-Brian got Eliza to look at the camera by telling her that there was a big spider in the tree.  She was clearly not impressed and actually quite afraid.

Close second: Eliza set up her own picnic after returning from swimming.  It involved Twizzler bites packed onto her hat and a juice box.
